Gentle Giants of Busuanga: Your Dugong Watching Adventure
The Beach House,
your gateway to dugong
Imagine gliding over clear, calm waters and coming face-to-face with one of the ocean’s most gentle, elusive creatures — the dugong. Often called “sea cows,” dugongs are one of the last remaining relatives of the manatee, and spotting them in the wild is truly one of the Philippines’ most remarkable marine experiences.
So, what makes dugongs so special?
Dugongs are shy, slow-moving herbivores that graze on seagrass beds. Unlike dolphins or whales, they’re rarely seen by chance — which makes swimming with a dugong in its natural habitat a rare gift for ocean lovers. These peaceful mammals are now classified as
vulnerable to endangered in many regions due to habitat loss and hunting, so every respectful encounter is a reminder of how precious our marine ecosystems truly are.
A Sustainable Wildlife Experience
At The Beach House, we believe that unforgettable adventures should never come at the cost of nature’s balance. Dugong watching tours operate under strict sustainability guidelines to protect these gentle giants. Only a limited number of guests are allowed per day to minimize human impact.
 There are
no artificial dugong attractions — these animals are wild and free, so sightings are never staged. Instead, our trusted local guides use their deep knowledge of the area to help you experience the magic responsibly.
Please note: Dugong Watching is an exclusive experience we arrange only for guests staying with us at The Beach House.
Best Time to See Dugongs

Sightings are possible during most months of the year, but dugong tours do not operate in September, which is their mating season — giving them the space they need undisturbed.
Please also note that all dugong tours are dependent on sea and weather conditions for your safety. When the weather does not permit safe sailing, the Dugong Center may cancel tours, as boats are not allowed to sail in rough conditions. We appreciate your understanding and your support for safe, responsible travel.
Plan Ahead — Secure Your Slot
Because we limit daily human interaction with dugongs for their protection, we strongly recommend securing your slot well in advance if swimming with these gentle giants is on your Busuanga wishlist. Our team will be happy to help you book and coordinate everything for a smooth experience.
Swim with the Dugong, Protect the Dugong
A Dugong Watching Adventure is more than a bucket-list activity — it’s an invitation to witness something rare, support sustainable community tourism, and help protect these endangered sea treasures for generations to come.
When you’re ready to meet Busuanga’s gentle giants, we’ll take care of the rest — so you can slip into the water, float above the seagrass, and cherish every quiet, graceful moment.
